Hedge Planting

The Year 10 Climate Change Elective, joined by Year 1 from Juniors, had an amazing morning planting 90 metres of hedge along the perimeter of the school field on Monday. Our new hedge will help us to make a small impact on our global biodiversity crisis and will sequester carbon as it grows. We are grateful to Louise Shorthose and Laura Ashfield from Surrey Wildlife Trust, who came to help us and give expert advice about planting and caring for our hedge. And also to the Woodland Trust, who donated the saplings in conjunction with the Queen’s Green Canopy – in celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee this summer. Look out for blooms and colour from dogrose, blackthorn, crab apple, rowan, elder and hazel as our hedge grows. Year 10 and Year 1 learnt new skills, will have a legacy for years to come, and we are so proud of their hard work!
