Astrogazers Stargazing Evening

April 19, 2024

Astrogazers collaborated with the Croydon Astronomical Society to host an event focused on learning to use telescopes and observe nearby stars and planets!

In a conclusion to events this term, Astrogazers worked with the Croydon Astronomical Society to put together an event so students at Croydon High can learn more about astronomy. The evening included a lecture by Tony Roberts, Chairman of the Croydon Astronomical Society, covering challenges associated with using telescopes and general relativity.

After the lecture, the group headed to the pavilion to observe visible planets and stars. Despite a slight setback due to the British weather, the skies cleared enough for the students to have a rewarding experience. They were able to observe Jupiter and its moons, along with some star constellations in more detail.

We would like to thank Tony Roberts, Graham Cluer, and the Croydon Astronomical Society for agreeing to bring in their equipment and share their expertise. Do keep an eye out for any future events hosted by Astrogazers!”
