Year 10 Debating Competition

The rather unexpected move to Guided Home Learning was an extra challenge for our Year 10 inter-form debating competition. However, we remained undaunted and the competition was of an extremely high standard. Congratulations to all those pupils who were brave enough to volunteer, step up to the mark, and participate!

Halle AS, India R, Maddy C, Eleanor Q, Abigail D, Orrin B, Amy M, Isobel G, Shriya K, Felicity L, Erna T, Kirsty M, Nyla A, Cindy B, Jess H, and Maddy M all rose to the challenge and represented their forms with true Croydon High spirit. Over a series of tutor times, the year group were treated to rigorous debates on motions including the dangers of fake news, childhood vaccinations, and foreign air travel. Many of the arguments were delivered in a cogent and convincing manner and gave the floor much food for thought. Special thanks must also go to the pupils who helped officiate proceedings!

The competition reached its conclusion yesterday, when we were delighted to welcome back our very own Mr Jonathan Vickery who acted as judge for the final. Eleanor Q, Maddy C, Isobel G, and Amy M debated whether or not humanity should fear the rise of artificial intelligence. It was a very closely-fought contest but, after much deliberation, Isobel G and Amy M were declared the winners. Well done to everyone; it was a truly fantastic way to end the academic year!
