STEAM Breakfast Networking Event

One of the most important transferable skills highlighted by employers is networking. In order to develop this valuable characteristic in our girls, we invited 14 delegates, from a variety of STEAM related careers, to Croydon High School for breakfast. The aim was to give the girls the opportunity to hear about the range of options available for those who continue with STEAM related subjects. Our delegates included 5 alumnae, 4 parents of GDST girls past and present and volunteers from Founder4Schools. Amongst them were Dr Ashish Mandavia, medical doctor and LinkedIn Director of the MSAG, Hannah Marsden who is on the Graduate Scheme at Mace and Tony Reeves, a 3D designer who brought in some of his products. Girls heard about career pathways, Medical summer schools and work life balance. Our alumnae were especially passionate about encouraging girls into STEAM related careers.

The girls mingled with the delegates for over an hour relishing both the opportunity to find out more about potential careers and the delicious muffins and croissants. The girls threw themselves enthusiastically into the conversations, some walking away with business cards, work experience and offers of jobs. The delegates were all very impressed with the maturity of our girls and with the appropriateness of the questions. They all praised the positive approach that our students have toward these events. I would like, publically,  to thank both the delegates who gave up their morning and our girls who made this such a successful event.

The next major careers event is our grand Careers Convention which will be held on 5th March 2020. Please consider whether you are able to offer work experience to one of our year 11 students, during the week of 29th June – 3rd July 2020. Please do get in touch at s.gower@cry.gdst.net if you feel you may be able to help with either of these events or indeed in any other capacity.
