Developing Intellectual Curiosity

We welcomed Dr Matthew Bullimore, the Widening Participation Officer of Churchill College, Cambridge, on Tuesday 19th to provide us with an Introduction to Cambridge University.

His talk was in two parts. In addition to providing an overview of Cambridge, the first section, aimed at students in Years 10 and 11, focussed on subject choices and combinations and on developing intellectual curiosity. The second part, aimed at students in Year 12, focussed on the application process, the profile of ‘typical’ candidates and the evidence used by Colleges to assess academic potential. In both cases the comments were applicable not just to Cambridge, but to all top selective institutions in the UK (in terms of what those universities will be looking for).

We were delighted not only to welcome a large number of our own students and parents, but also to host guests from a range of other local schools such as Riddlesdown Collegiate and Oasis Academy, Coulsdon. Our thanks to Dr Bullimore for an entertaining and informative evening.
