Year 2 Trip to Bay Pond

Year 2 had a fantastic day at Bay Pond in Godstone on Wednesday. The two groups explored the nature reserve catching mini-beasts in the meadow and then looking in the woods and under logs for any other mini-beasts. We found a whole array of bugs and beetles, sorting them according to number of legs. We enjoyed finding out the differences between millipedes and centipedes. We even learned that many centipedes don’t actually have one hundred legs! The girls even had the chance to walk in a mini-beast’s shoes, being blindfolded and having to try to make their way through the wood which was full of obstacles.

The girls also enjoyed listening to ‘Stick Man’ before creating their own ‘Stick Characters’. The girls found sticks and learned the art of lashing to attach the arms to the body with wool. They were then able to create clothing for their stick person before beginning their story plans and searching the woods for additional characters.

We can’t wait to read their final ‘Stick Stories’.
