On a bright and sunny day, this year’s Crystal Ivies—Aiyana, Claudia, Gisela, Lilia, and Louise—celebrated with their parents at a special luncheon, joined by Ms Davies, Ms Gilmour, Ms James, and Mrs Gower.
Their junior schoolteachers—Mrs Wilson, Mr and Mrs Garrard, Mrs Troop, Mrs Pickett, and Mrs Grinham—made surprise appearances, sparking laughter and warm storytelling from trips down memory lane.
One of the most touching moments came when Reception pupils arrived during lunch, delighting the group with their performance of “Here Come the Bees and the Butterflies” before heading off to their swimming lesson.
Following lunch, the Crystal Ivies took the short walk back to the Reception and Nursery classrooms, reflecting on their journey and revisiting the place where it all began. The experience was clearly moving for Aiyana, Claudia, Gisela, Lilia, and Louise and their parents alike – a few tears were shed!
Now officially part of the Ivy Link Alumnae network, these remarkable pupils join their Class of 2025 peers in a lifelong connection with the Croydon High community. As always, we wish them the very best and look forward to welcoming them back for future reunions and events. Once a Croydon High girl, always a Croydon High girl!

On Thursday, we said our final farewells to the Upper Sixth, who are now officially on study leave! They enjoyed the morning with a leavers’ assembly led by Ms James, followed by a full English breakfast buffet in the Sixth Form Centre.
The girls were gifted our long-standing tradition of beautifully handcrafted silver ivy leaf necklaces, made using real ivy leaves. Along with a much newer tradition of ‘Good luck ducks’, their mini mascots to wish them the best of luck in their exams and beyond 🦆

We are pleased to share some impressive statistics on our current Upper Sixth cohort and their university subjects and offers.
With a special mention to Malina and Louise, who have received offers from the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford for Languages. Malina shared with us, “Applying for Oxbridge is a vigorous process, but not once during the application did I feel alone. Ms Gilmour, Ms James and my Languages teachers all guided me step-by-step along the process.”
We wish them all the best in their upcoming exams and look forward to seeing them all on A Level Results Day – 14 August.
Lower Sixth geographers ventured across Canary Wharf, Woolwich, and Greenwich for a dynamic fieldwork day, collecting essential data for their NEA projects on regeneration, place identity, and quality of life—all under glorious sunshine!

On Tuesday 30 April, Lower Sixth geographers took part in an engaging and purposeful day of fieldwork across Canary Wharf, Woolwich and Greenwich as part of their A-Level NEA (Non-Examined Assessment) preparation. With individual investigations underway, pupils used the day to collect essential data connected to themes of place identity, regeneration, quality of life, and socio-economic variation.
Starting in Canary Wharf: Regeneration and Economic Change
The day began with pupils arriving at Canary Wharf, one of London’s most prominent examples of urban regeneration. Pupils explored the area’s striking modern architecture, commercial land use, and high environmental quality scores, using techniques such as environmental quality surveys, perception questionnaires, and pollution meters. Many pupils noted the lack of residential areas and community services, raising interesting discussions about how regeneration shapes not just economic spaces, but place identity and livability.
Woolwich: Contrasting Urban Environments
By midday, pupils moved on to Woolwich, a contrasting urban setting offering a different regeneration narrative. Here, the focus turned to land use variation, housing types, and accessibility to public services and green spaces. Pupils continued their data collection with traffic surveys, housing condition assessments, and environmental quality scoring, which will feed into comparative analysis in their NEA coursework.
Finishing the Day in Historic Greenwich
The final stage of the day brought students to Greenwich Market and the Cutty Sark area, where they were able to explore perceptions of place in a more historic, mixed-use environment. Using a mix of land-use mapping, perception surveys, and field sketches, students considered how cultural heritage, tourism, and green spaces shape the lived experience of residents and visitors.
Geography in the Real World
The warm weather made for an enjoyable day of active learning, and pupils showed maturity, curiosity and independence in gathering their data. From interviewing passers-by to assessing urban quality, students gained valuable experience in geographical inquiry and data collection techniques. The sunshine was a welcome contrast to our previous fieldwork day in Stratford back in January, when freezing temperatures and biting winds made conditions far more challenging.
This fieldwork now forms the foundation of their NEA projects, where they will analyse and interpret their findings using a combination of primary and secondary data sources.
The fieldwork experience continues to be a highlight of the A-Level course, helping students build both their confidence and understanding of real-world geography.

Year 5 travelled to Trust in London for a very interesting conference about diversity and inclusion in our schools.

On Thursday 8 May, a group of girls from Year 5 travelled to Trust Office for the Junior Schools Diversity & Inclusion Forum. They learnt about the culture of Somalia, and how, as a nomadic community, they must think carefully about the everyday objects they need to live. They also tried their hand at traditional basket weaving using recycled materials and newspapers. There was also a focus on the Gypsy and Traveller Communities and their culture. The girls worked collaboratively with other schools to ensure inclusion, and a feeling of being represented is at the forefront of everything we do at GDST.
The girls also enjoyed lunch with a wonderful view on the roof terrace in central London. They spotted The Shard, Buckingham Palace, The London Eye and more!
Mrs Moorhouse and Mrs Connery were extremely proud of the contribution the girls made to the discussions held, they were fantastic representatives of Croydon High Junior School.

Culture Day was a huge highlight in April! From EYFS to Sixth Form, all the pupils did a lap of honour on the field to show off their cultural outfits and gowns, and they looked spectacular!
The rest of the day included a cultural fair where the girls learnt some Irish dancing, played games and had henna art, alongside a cultural quiz testing our pupils’ knowledge of the variety of cultures and diversity we have in the school. The day drew to a close with a showcase where pupils performed dances and sang on stage.
Congratulations to the Junior School U11 Swimming Team for getting into the national finals which will take place in Sheffield in June. We wish them all the best!

The Selsdon Community Clubhouse (formerly Selsdon Centre for the Retired) has been in Selsdon for 45 years! It provides a social / lunch club for our older individuals in Selsdon. New clients come to us as referrals from link workers, social prescribers or family members introduce them to us by knowing about our Centre or seeing it advertised in the Selsdon Gazette and on social media. We are centrally located, very close to Croydon High School for Girls, with free parking and on the bus routes. We have a beautiful bright environment with lots of natural light and views for our clients to enjoy!
Hot mid-day meals are served after which we engage our clients in activities such as board games, arts and crafts, quizzes, card games, bingo, raffles, and live music events. We also offer chiropody, hairdressing, hearing aid services as well as instruction in IT technology.
Our meeting room and larger space are available for hire during the day, in the evenings and at weekends.
Loneliness and isolation are big drivers for us to reduce and our Centre provides lots of social interaction particularly for those who have lost friends and do not have family around them. None of this is possible without the help of our valued volunteers who give of their time on a shift basis, three days a week when our lunch club is open. We are always look out.
Testimony from one of our volunteers:
“My 2-hour weekly session fits in well with my other commitments, although it is always great to do extra shifts preparing and serving food for special occasions, e.g. bingo or afternoon tea, if needed, and you have the time.”
“If you have some spare time and enjoy the company of and/or working with others, I’d certainly recommend that you pop in and see what a lovely place the Clubhouse is.”
