Our Nursery girls marked a special milestone as they graduated with smiles, songs, and dreams for the future. Each child proudly shared what she hopes to be when she grows up, holding up her own painting of her future self. The girls also delighted everyone with some lovely songs before being presented with their graduation certificates. Parents enjoyed a touching video montage filled with memories from their daughters’ time in Nursery—a perfect way to celebrate their journey so far.
A special thank you to our wonderful PTA for generously providing the girls’ graduation outfits—your support helped make the day even more special.
We are so proud of all that the girls have achieved and wish them the very best as they take their next steps into Reception!

🎭Through voice projection, stage presence, and direction, Year 2 Drama Club embraced a journey of growth and expression.

Year 2 Drama Club drew to a close with each member receiving a well-deserved certificate of excellence. During this term, they had learnt about voice projection, stage presence and stage management, and they had recently been looking at and taking direction and seeing how this could help or affect a performance. They had been working on a piece as a group entitled The Airport. Mrs Connery was so impressed by their characterisations and how much their confidence had grown throughout the term.
Successful high-altitude flight test simulates space conditions as Astrogazers takes a step closer to putting a CubeSat into Low Earth Orbit (LEO.)
On Tuesday 1 July 2025, Astrogazers – a student-led space company directed by Mrs Karteepan – reached a landmark moment in our Mission Pegasus project with a high-altitude flight test taking off from Cranfield Airport. Conducted in collaboration with the Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurements, the test simulated the conditions our CubeSat will encounter in LEO.
Our custom-built sensor operated autonomously throughout the flight, gathering critical scientific data and successfully validating the system for space. This milestone marks the completion of Phase 2 of our mission. With the flight test behind us, we now move forward to the next major stages: building the full engineering model, assembling the final flight unit and preparing for launch into orbit. Additionally, the BBC was excitingly there to capture it all, filming throughout the day and broadcasting a special feature live on BBC London that same evening!
However, this mission is about more than hardware and data – it’s about inspiration. Astrogazers is on track to become the first UK school, and the first all-girls school in the world, to design, build, test and launch a CubeSat into space. We’re proving that young people – especially girls – can lead ambitious, real-world STEM missions.
We’re not just reaching for the stars, we’re showing others that they can too.

Our 150th celebration honoured achievements, community spirit, and inspired futures—marking Croydon High’s next chapter.

The final special event of our 150th anniversary year took place last Friday 27 June, in glorious sunshine overlooking our equally glorious grounds.
It was a truly memorable occasion and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything our school stands for.
As Ms Davies said, “This afternoon we are celebrating individuals, but I also want to recognise the collective achievements of our whole community who live out our school values every day. We are proud, we aspire, we empower one another and, crucially, we are kind, and I believe, this is what makes our school unique. We look forward to our future with hope and with confidence.
The story of Croydon High is still being written, the next 150 years starts now. So, I say to all our pupils, it is your achievements, your courage, and your voices that will shape its next chapter. I challenge you to continue to aspire without limits. And to make history.”
This message was certainly echoed by our wonderful guest speaker, Baroness Gabby Bertin, alumna and former Head Girl and now a dedicated campaigner in the House of Lords, championing causes very close to our school’s heart. Baroness Bertin spoke passionately and inspiringly about her work, crediting so much of her aspiration and determination to the school she so clearly still loves. She gave generously of her time after the awards ceremony, chatting to pupils and families and was clearly delighted to be back at Croydon High.
Our Head Girls Suzie and Lily-Belle delivered exceptional speeches acknowledging some of the highlights of our anniversary year and encouraging us all to feel proud of our individual contributions.
Baroness Bertin said after the event, “It really was a huge honour, and I have been on Cloud 9 ever since. The girls completely blew me away, and I felt so proud of them and the school.”
Congratulations to all our prize winners and to everyone who worked so hard to make this such a wonderfully celebratory afternoon.

Year 5 and 6 pupils have had an incredible year in Speech and Drama. Pupils have been an absolute joy to teach, and have all made wonderful progress in their confidence, speaking prowess, performance skills, inference, empathy, teamwork, creativity… the list goes on and on! This progress is evidenced, most importantly, by growth Ms Bradley is proud to see every week. It is lovely to find this progress is also reflected in their exam results. Ms Bradley is hugely proud that Year 5 and 6, taking Speaking Verse and Prose: Grades 2 and 3 with LAMDA respectively, have achieved an astonishing 100% Merit and Distinction in their results, with 89% of pupils achieving Distinction. They have all worked incredibly hard throughout the year and their wonderful results are so well deserved.
Congratulations Year 5 and 6!

🎨 Year 10 artists showcased self-portraits at GDST exhibition, gaining inspiration, connections, and creative confidence.

We selected three of our Year 10 GCSE Art pupils to represent Croydon High at the biennial GDST art exhibition hosted, this time, at GDST Trust headquarters. Amber, Athina, and Ella proudly took along their painted self-portraits to showcase. Not only was this an edifying opportunity for them to view the artwork of their wider peers, but it was fabulous to see them all making the most of the opportunity by chatting with other art pupils and art teachers from other renowned GDST art departments. We were joined by Wimbledon, Bromley, Sutton, Bath, and Nottingham. The sunny weather afforded the whole group a picnic lunch in St James’s Park, which was the perfect forerunner to the finale of the day – a visit to the illustrious and just opened Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy. I am in no doubt that our three pupils came away full of awe and inspiration on where they can take their own art to next.
“I enjoyed meeting new people, asking other pupils about their work, and gaining insight from older pupils on how to effectively present our own work. It was inspiring to see the different interpretations and contrasts between the style and composition of each student’s work, and especially the astounding quality of everyone’s art. I also enjoyed going around the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition, as it was really fun to see all the different styles of art and to see how much they were being sold for, as it helped us understand what art as a profession would be like.”
Ella
“The Art exhibition with the other GDST schools was a great opportunity to meet new friends and share tips and experiences regarding Art GCSE and A Levels. I definitely learnt a lot from the way the other students structured their work in their books and gained inspiration from their surroundings, and it was really fun to share all of the thought processes behind our artworks. Everyone had a distinct style, and the rooms were full of vibrant colours and mixed media.”

The Young Reporter Awards Ceremony was both surreal and unforgettable - a celebration of hard work, friendship and the power of stories written with purpose.

The Young Reporter Awards Ceremony at Roehampton University was an experience I’ll never forget. It was my first time attending an official awards event, and walking through the stunning campus – with its beautiful scenery and sense of occasion – made it all feel very real.
Receiving a framed certificate from an official member of NewsQuest was such a proud moment. After months of researching, writing and editing, it was amazing to see everyone’s efforts recognised in such a formal setting. What made it even more special was catching up with some of the other winners – friends I’d made during the reporting day a few weeks ago. It was lovely to share the moment with people who’d been on the same journey.
Taking part in the scheme itself was a turning point for me. Writing for a real newspaper challenged me to step outside the classroom and into the real world of journalism, where every word carries weight. I learned how to shape stories with intent, write with purpose, and take responsibility for how my work might land with readers. It deepened not just my writing skills, but also my passion for storytelling.

📚 Year 7’s Amena shortlisted for global writing prize with her inspiring story The Newfound Voice!
We were thrilled to find out that Amena D in Year 7 has been shortlisted for the 2025 Author of Tomorrow Award, which is part of the Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Prize.
Amena’s story, The Newfound Voice, is one of three shortlisted in the 12-15 category, selected from hundreds of entries submitted from around the world. A huge achievement!
The inspiration for Amena’s story came from the creative writing workshop she attended in October as part of Jasbinder Bilan’s Author visit to Croydon High. Jasbinder asked all the pupils to bring in something from the natural world to use as inspiration and Amena brought a conker. This became the seed of her story!
But, as any writer will tell you, inspiration is only the start and Amena has honoured her creative talent by working hard on her story all year.
The Newfound Voice is an exceptional piece of writing and we have no doubt that this will be the first of many literary achievements.
Well done, Amena!

The GDST have opened up the voting for Alumna of the Year 2025.

Croydon High has been successful in having an alumna shortlisted for the GDST Alumna of the Year award with Margery Swinton.
Margery Swinton is a tireless champion for youth sport, inclusion, and education, whose work has transformed opportunities for children in rural Scotland.
Over a 37-year teaching career, including 14 years in her home village of Knockando, Margery dedicated herself to supporting children, both in the classroom and beyond. Even after retiring, she continues to work as a supply teacher and special needs educator.
Margery took up athletics at 42, becoming a registered coach and official for Scottish sport. She founded a rural athletics club to serve remote schools in the Highlands, ensuring that sport became an integral part of education in the region. Under her leadership, Knockando has become a hub for athletic excellence. She has raised over £75,00, including funding for a UKA-standard long jump runway, a 10-station fitness trail, and even a local skate park – all in an area with limited facilities and long travel distances to the nearest stadium.
As a World Masters athlete, Margery has competed internationally in the USA, South Africa, Australia, Canada, and beyond, winning medals in all three colours and always securing gold in her signature event – the hammer throw. She has held three British Masters records, several Scottish records, and continues to inspire with her achievements at age 82.
Her coaching has developed several national-level athletes. One of her protégés now trains with the Scottish National Sports Academy, ranked No. 2 in the UK for U20 long jump and hurdles, and another has been selected for Commonwealth Games training. Margery gives her time freely, obtaining equipment from ski resorts, maintaining tracks herself, and setting up virtual training programmes to support even the most isolated pupils.
