Our Senior Prefects recently hosted a breakfast gathering with our Year 7 pupils, creating a wonderful opportunity for connection, conversation, and shared experiences across year groups. The event was filled with lively discussion as pupils came together in the Recital Room.
Year 7 pupils spoke openly about their transition into secondary school, reflecting on their first impressions, favourite subjects, and the challenges they have overcome in these early months. It was encouraging to see how confidently they expressed themselves, sharing both their successes and the areas where they are still finding their feet.
Equally engaging were the insights offered by our Senior Prefects, who spoke candidly about their own journeys through the school. They provided valuable advice on everything from managing homework and maintaining friendships to seizing opportunities and staying motivated. Their reflections offered reassurance to younger pupils, demonstrating how much can be achieved with perseverance and a positive mindset.
A particular highlight of the morning was the curiosity shown by our Year 7 pupils towards life in Sixth Form. They were eager to learn about the responsibilities that come with leadership roles, as well as how Senior Prefects balance their commitments with academic demands. The Prefects responded thoughtfully, offering practical strategies for time management and emphasising the importance of organisation, resilience, and finding time to recharge.
The breakfasts were a really good opportunity to get to know some of the year sevens better and hear about their favourite memories from their first year of secondary school. This highlighted the importance of getting to know each person in the school individually which we hope to continue.
