As part of Arts & Innovation Week, 23 Year 10 pupils journeyed to Jesus College at Cambridge University to understand more about what it is truly like to live, study and flourish at Oxbridge.
During our tour of Jesus College, we learnt about the unique collegiate system, the vital role of the porters, and the realities of student living, studying and socialising. We admired the impressive sporting facilities, including the tennis courts and cricket pitches, and marvelled at the rather grand dining hall.
The application and interview process for Oxbridge is known to be challenging. The girls gained a deep understanding of how to demonstrate both intellectual capacity and adaptability under scrutiny. In an extensive ‘Question and Answer’ style meeting with our Croydon High alum and current History Research Fellow, we also gained valuable insights into the importance of pursuing our passions and intellectual curiosities. Year 10 were very much encouraged to engage in wider reading by willingly ‘going down the rabbit hole’ to then reflect deeply upon it, embracing wherever that learning journey may take them.
Energy was restored with a well-earned ice cream from the iconic Jack’s Gelato (Caramel seemed to be the flavour de rigueur!) along the historic King’s Parade, before a final happy (and tired out) train ride back home.
