On Tuesday, 24 February, Mrs Conrad was delighted to welcome 15 Croydon High School alumnae back to school for our STEM Inspiration Evening. The alumnae, who left between 2012 and 2021, spoke to over 50 pupils from Years 10, 11 and 12, alongside their parents, sharing their experiences and answering questions about post-16 choices and future pathways.
Although all of our alumnae studied STEM A Levels, they have since gone on to a wide range of university courses and an even broader range of careers. Representatives from each of the main STEM disciplines addressed the audience, explaining what they studied, what influenced their decisions, and the options available beyond school. They also offered valuable advice, including the importance of keeping an open mind, not worrying if you don’t yet have a fixed plan, and the power of networking.
It was inspiring to hear our alumnae speak with such enthusiasm and confidence about their journeys. They highlighted the transferable skills developed through STEM and how these have opened doors to diverse fields, including systems engineering, veterinary medicine, medicine, accounting, consulting, quantum computing, pharmacy and sustainability-focused careers, among many others.
Following the talks, pupils enjoyed a networking opportunity, giving them the chance to speak directly with alumnae and explore individual routes in more detail. Mrs Conrad would like to thank our wonderful alumnae for giving up their time, as well as the students and parents who attended and helped make the evening such a success.
