GCSE Results 2025
GCSE grades continue to rise alongside pupil aspirations
Following last week’s announcement of stellar A Level grades for the Class of 2025, celebrations have continued at Croydon High with the focus now on GCSE results.
Croydon High’s academic trajectory continues to rise with this year’s cohort achieving some of the strongest grades in the school’s history.
An outstanding 31% of grades awarded were at the very highest level of a Grade 9 (A**), with 57% at Grades 8/9 (A**/A*) and 77% at Grades 7-9 (A**-A).
Head Annabel Davies recognised that these excellent outcomes reflect not only talent but also a tremendous amount of hard work.
She said, “I am incredibly proud to celebrate the individual and collective achievements and the unique journey behind every single set of grades today.”
“For 77% of those grades to be at the hugely aspirational Grades 7-9 is something that is not achieved without enormous effort and commitment from pupils. I also want to thank the teachers who have supported and inspired them to reach these heights.”
With so much to celebrate, it is always hard to highlight individuals, but special mention must be made of three pupils, Isabel (Isy) P, Phoebe R and Charlotte S, who have all been awarded straight Grade 9s. This is an exceptional achievement.
Isy, Phoebe and Charlotte hold their results with pride
As Deputy Head (Academic), Ben Rew explains, “To be awarded A** grades across the board in such a wide range of academic subjects is remarkable. I am delighted to be able to congratulate Isy, Phoebe and Charlotte on their approach to their GCSE studies and the results that reflect all their hard work – we are extremely proud of them.”
Isy will be joining the Sixth Form at Croydon High after achieving a hugely impressive set of 10 GCSEs and will be studying Chemistry, Biology and Religion, Ethics and Philosophy (REP) at A Level. A committed and motivated scholar, Isy has always brought a positive energy to both her studies and her peer group and we look forward to seeing her develop all these skills in the aspirational Sixth Form environment. Well done, Isy.
Her mum proudly shared, “While success comes when students work hard, it only truly happens when you have staff like those at Croydon High. You need both elements – and Isy has had that ever since she joined in Year 5. It’s not just the quality of teaching, it’s the relationships staff build with the girls. They back them 100% and make them feel like they can achieve anything – and from that, the girls really do run with it. Well done to Isy, but a huge well done to the staff too, who work so hard.”
Phoebe is a pupil whose talents and ambition could take her anywhere, with passions for music, art and science all areas of real strength. This was clear from a young age as Phoebe was awarded a full Bursary in Year 7 after standing out in the Year 6 mentoring partnership between Croydon High and the local Rowdown Foundation. These coveted bursary places are awarded only to those exhibiting the highest levels of academic potential which Phoebe has certainly gone on to realise. Phoebe was characteristically modest but clearly delighted with her results, saying, “I would never be here without the support I’ve had from everyone at Croydon High, from the very beginning. They saw something in me that I didn’t realise was there and I am so grateful.”
Her mum expressed her deep appreciation too and paid tribute to the Rowdown Foundation for setting Phoebe on the path to success. “We know how high the standards are at Croydon High and from the very beginning Phoebe’s main focus was not to let anyone down, with the life changing opportunity she was given. She never has and I could not be more proud today. ”
More opportunity awaits Phoebe in the Sixth Form, where she will be studying Mathematics, Physics and 3D Design. Many congratulations, Phoebe.
Charlotte has been an exemplary scholar from her first days at Croydon High, combining natural ability with consistent focus and effort in all subjects. Achieving Grade 9s in all ten GCSE subjects, including Further Mathematics, is exactly what the school anticipated from Charlotte and certainly what she deserves. One of the most gifted mathematicians Croydon High has ever taught, it was still remarkable to learn that Charlotte was awarded 100% in Mathematics – a remarkable result. Congratulations on all you have achieved, Charlotte – we are so proud of you.
A further eight pupils were celebrating the fact that they had achieved exceptional Grades 8/9 across all subjects. Huge congratulations go to Sophie C, Chloe H, Leila, Prajnaa, Rosa, Prisha, Fitnet and Poppy.
High achievement was certainly a theme of the day with an impressive 42% of pupils awarded the top Grades 7-9 across the board.
Triple Scientists had reason to be very proud with excellent results in all three subjects. Physics (90% Grades 7/8/9) Biology (85% Grades 7/8/9) and Chemistry (78% Grades 7/8/9) are all subjects that are popular at Croydon High with a significant number of pupils opting to continue with one or more into Sixth Form.
Following outstanding performances at A Level, where pupils are moving on to read languages at both Oxford and Cambridge, it is clear that this is certainly a real strength of the school’s offering. This year, 100% of grades awarded in French were at 8/9 ( 75% at Grade 9) with 100% of German grades being 7/9 (78% at Grade 9).
And more widely, an outstanding 92% of PE grades were at the top level of 7-9 as were 91% in History, 85% of grades in English Literature, and 83% in Religion, Ethics and Philosophy (REP).
In summary, Annabel Davies paid tribute to the Year 11 Class of 2025 saying,
“I am absolutely delighted to see the high aspirations and commitment of this year group rewarded by these excellent results. As a cohort they have been inspiring; they have set their sights high and worked incredibly hard to secure the grades they so richly deserve.”
