Music Scholarship Information (Year 7: 2026)

At 11+ (Year 7), music scholarships may be awarded to girls showing outstanding ability and future potential. Music scholars must pass the school’s entrance examination. A candidate should be of a good Grade 4 standard on at least one instrument (singing alone is not sufficient). Applicants are shortlisted based on their potential, with final auditions in November/December 2025.

Audition Requirements:

  • Perform one or two contrasting pieces on one instrument (or a second instrument, if applicable).
  • The total playing time should be between 4 and 12 minutes (depending on the number of instruments).
  • An accompanist can be provided upon request, or candidates may bring their own.

Application Deadline: 17 October 2025.
Music auditions: Week commencing 24 November 2025.


Music Scholarship Roles and Responsibilities:

Key Stage 3 and 4:

  • Continuation of lessons on chosen instrument(s) throughout the scholarship.
  • Participation in choirs and appropriate ensembles.
  • Performing solos, assisting rehearsals, and helping with junior ensembles.
  • Assisting on Open Days and promoting music within the school.

Key Stage 5:

  • Acting as role models in the music department and leading initiatives.
  • Regular solo performances, leading rehearsals, and mentoring younger students.
  • Encouraged to study music in the sixth form.

Video Performance Guidance

  • Provide a short video recording (around 2 minutes) on the first instrument to assist in the shortlisting process.
  • The video should be filmed in a plain setting, in school uniform, with clear lighting and sound quality.
  • Include a brief introduction stating your name, year, and the piece to be performed.
  • Shoot the video in horizontal/landscape format, with 5 seconds of stillness before and after the performance.
  • The video will be deleted once the audition process is complete.
