At 13+ (Year 9) Drama scholarships (as part of the Academic Plus Year 9 Scholarship Award) may be awarded to girls showing outstanding ability and potential. Drama scholars must pass the school’s entrance examination.

All girls interested in the scholarship are required to indicate this on registration. Scholarship application forms can be downloaded from the website or requested from the Admissions Registrar.

Applicants will be asked to provide copies of certificates and/or awards that they have received for Drama in support of their application. Applicants are also required to provide a reference from a Drama Club or activity where they have regularly participated.

PLEASE NOTE: The scholarship application form needs to be completed by the parent or guardian and returned directly to the Admissions Registrar at the school. The reference also needs to be sent directly to the Admissions Registrar by the person completing the reference either by post or by email to admissions@cry.gdst.net.

Applications will be shortlisted to those who demonstrate scholarship potential by our Head of Drama. These girls will be invited to the school to attend a drama workshop and audition. The workshop will consist of group work with some role-play, and an audition.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Candidates will be asked to learn and perform a speech from any published play. They should focus on the creation of character, through voice and movement, the creation of the correct mood or atmosphere, and if applicable, the creation of place, and the acknowledgement of any other character(s) they might be addressing.
In choosing a piece, candidates should try to pick a character that will show off their acting skills to their best advantage. The choice is entirely up to individual applicants; the Drama Department will not suggest suitable pieces.
  2. IMPORTANT: The speech must last no more than two minutes and no less than one minute.
  3. It will be followed by a short interview with the Head of Drama. Candidates will be asked to discuss their performance and be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the play and the character they have chosen to portray.
  4. They may be asked questions about their own acting experience and performances they may have seen in the theatre.

Applications must be made by 12 December 2025. The final drama assessments will take place on 5 February 2026.
