A Level Results 2022 | Croydon High School

From cancelled GCSEs to outstanding A Level Results, Croydon High’s Class of 2022 finally have their chance to shine!

Croydon High School are delighted to report stellar A Level results for the Class of 2022 with a remarkable:

Over one third of all grades awarded being A*

91% of all grades awarded being A*-B

The Class of 2022 will forever be remembered as the year group who faced adversity and delivered, with an outstanding set of A Level grades exceeding the already high expectations of this talented cohort.

Rewind to March 2020 and remember that this is the group of pupils who had to be told that they would not, after all, be sitting the GCSE examinations that they had so diligently worked towards over the previous two years.

Headmistress Emma Pattison recalls that day saying “To have to deliver the almost unbelievable news that exams had effectively been cancelled was one of the most difficult things I have had to do as a Head. Celebrating the incredible results achieved by that same group of pupils, two years on, is a moment I will treasure!”

33% of all grades awarded are A*

74% of all grades awarded are A*- A making this a record year for Croydon High students

91% of all grades awarded are A*-B

Over 50% of the cohort gained straight A* or A grades

100% A* A grades in Computer Science, French, German, Music, Further Maths, Spanish, PE and Religion, Ethics and Philosophy

Emma Pattison continues “Alongside the individual stories of challenge and achievement, I want to publicly acknowledge the talents, determination, and resilience of the entire cohort, who have been high performers throughout their time at the school. These A Level results not only confirm the high expectations we already had of them, but also illustrate the perseverance they have shown to maintain their focus and aspiration in the most challenging of circumstances.

Their Sixth Form experience has undoubtedly been hugely impacted by COVID and two periods of lockdown, but they have not allowed themselves to become victims and have instead proven themselves to be the victors!”

Mrs Pattison went on to pay tribute to her staff for their outstanding support for all pupils through the school’s exemplary Guided Home Learning Programme during lockdown and in the variety of bespoke support offered to sixth form students, such as the Pathways’ Mentoring scheme and the school’s Oxbridge Programme.

Croydon High has so much to be proud of, but I believe the level of individual care and attention, for every girl, every day, is quite unique here and I would like to publicly thank the staff who put so much in to nurturing the pupils in their care. The results speak for themselves.”

Deputy Head (Academic), Dr Phil Purvis, is also extremely proud of the pupils and staff, and of the continuing positive trajectory that the school is on, in many areas, but specifically in terms of academic achievement.

Despite the many challenges of the last few years, we have retained our belief in the abilities of our pupils and the dedication of our teachers. We identified some years ago that this year group, in particular, was not only capable of excellent academic results but also had the collective mindset and determination to break records. That they have done this in the context of a global pandemic speaks volumes about them as individuals and also of the exceptional learning environment at Croydon High. The positive changes we have made to the way we teach, the curriculum and the tailored approach to educational support has resulted in exceptional results that are fully deserved.”

In terms of individual stories, we should perhaps start with Head Girl, Sarena Yogendran, who armed with A* Grades in Psychology and Religion, Ethics and Philosophy, together with an A in Economics and an A* EPQ is heading to the beautiful city of Bath to read Psychology. Sarena is also this year’s winner of the prestigious GDST Minerva Prize. This is awarded for overall achievement, to an Upper Sixth student from across the GDST network who embodies the true GDST spirit and ethos, exhibiting qualities such as creativity, innovation, perseverance, resilience, kindness and empathy. Sarena has demonstrated those traits throughout her time at the school and we are immensely proud of her. Serena says: “I was really happy to find out my results. Thank you to everyone at Croydon High that has helped me. It’s been such a good day!

Katie Scarrott’s love of languages – and her dedication to her studies – has resulted in simply outstanding results, with an A* in both French and German, and an A* in Maths and in her EPQ. Katie goes on to read Modern and Medieval Languages at Cambridge (Caius) and we wish her Au revoir and Viel Glück!  Claire Scarrott, Katie’s mother says: “I’m just so proud of Katie. She has worked so hard this last two years and the exemplary support provided by the school and particularly the modern language teachers has been above and beyond. Today Katie fulfilled a long held ambition in winning her university place and sharing her joy with the people who have been some of her biggest cheerleaders was a special moment and one we’ll treasure. Thank you CHS and well done to the Class of 2022”

Another aspiring Psychologist, Jessica Tongue is celebrating straight A* grades in Psychology, Sociology and P.E. together with an A* EPQ. Jess is heading to Nottingham to read Psychology where she will no doubt continue to flourish. Well done, Jess!

A pupil in our Junior School, Kit Bradshaw- Haydock re-joined Croydon High in Upper Sixth and has thrown herself wholeheartedly in to every aspect of school life, not least her studies. Her efforts have certainly paid off with four A* grades in History, Drama, Politics and Sociology and an A* EPQ – an outstanding achievement. Kit has a place at Durham to read Sociology.   Whatever she does, we know she will do herself and all of us proud!

Croydon High’s commitment over the last few years to developing subjects like Computer Science, through their unique and bespoke Enterprise Technology curriculum has paid off, with growing numbers of pupils opting to take the subject at school and to go on to continue to study it afterwards. And they are also doing extremely well, with 100% of grades awarded for Computer Science A Level this year at A* or A.

An example of a high achiever with strong aspirations in this field is Sajni Shah whose outstanding grades of  A* in Computer Science, Maths,  Further Maths and Chemistry sends her to Manchester to take up a place on their very highly regarded (and male dominated) Computer Science with Industrial Experience Course. We have no doubt that Sajni will more than hold her own in this environment and continue to role model the very real opportunities for women in what is no longer a man’s world.

Another straight A* student, Shayna Patel, will be making her way to UCL to read Geography, as the proud holder of top grades in Geography, Economics, Psychology and her EPQ. She takes with her all our congratulations on her very well-deserved success. Joining her at UCL, will be Ananthika Gobikrishnan, whose A* in Maths and Psychology together with an A in Biology and her EPQ secures her place to read Psychology with Education. Congratulations to her on these excellent grades.

Tamia Meggie- Graham will be moving to London to read Psychology at Kings, armed with excellent grades; A* in Politics and Sociology and an A in Psychology. Tamia’s hard work has been justly rewarded and we wish her every continued success.

And Sophie Fitzpatrick is another pupil who deserves every accolade with her outstanding efforts securing A* Grades in Geography and 3D Design and an A in Politics and an A* in her EPQ, taking her to Warwick where she will read Politics and International Studies. We are all very proud of you, Sophie.

Similarly, Bethany Williams is combining her very real passion for design with her undeniable talents as a computer scientist, taking up her place at UAL (Central St Martin’s) to study Product and Industrial Design. The star of this year’s school production of Calamity Jane, Beth demonstrated that she is anything but a calamity…! Her A* in Drama and A in Computer Science and 3D design are excellent results for a true all-rounder. Well done, Beth!

Uncovering passions for subjects and providing opportunities for girls to follow their dreams is something Croydon High takes very seriously. Whilst academic aspiration is encouraged of course, and as this year’s results so clearly demonstrate, it is achieved, the school sees it is also their responsibility to support pupils in pursuing the subjects and career choices that inspire them.

Tay Blair had her heart firmly set on studying Sport and Exercise Science at Oxford Brookes and her excellent A* AA grades means she has secured that place. Tay is going on to do something she will love and where she will no doubt continue to excel. Congratulations Tay!

Ines Holton’s choice of course and ‘uni’ was Biological Sciences at Warwick. She was awarded A*AA, – outstanding results for an excellent student who will continue to excel, we have no doubt! Well done, Ines!

This diversity of aspiration is truly encouraged at Croydon High. As well as celebrating aspiring medics such as Ivana Boncrah, who will be reading Medicine at Kent and Medway and Alisha Ahmad who has opted for Biomedical Sciences at Kings, the school is delighted that Freya Marsden will be realising her dream of becoming a paramedic, studying Paramedic Sciences at UWE whilst Emma Scarborough also heads west to read Anthropology at Exeter and Robyn Chapman is on her way to York to raise the curtain on her future career in Writing, Directing and Performance Theatre.

The number of pupils achieving such high grades in this cohort makes it impossible to mention them all by name, but in addition to those named above, the following pupils were all awarded straight A or a combination of A and A* grades and fully deserve recognition.

Many congratulations to Alisha Ahmad (3 As), Ivana Boncrah (3 As) Vrishti Haria (3 As) Layla Janmohamed (A* and 2 As) Mollie Johnston (A* and 2 As) and Abigail Squires ( 3 As) who, along with all the remarkable individuals in the Class of 2022, have undoubtedly earned the right to celebrate.

The final word goes to outgoing Headmistress, Emma Pattison who leaves the school in a strong position, ready for new leadership under Head, Annabel Davies from September.

From everyone in the Croydon High community, thank you; for all you have done for your school, for each other and most importantly, for yourselves, to help secure the futures you so richly deserve. We could not be more proud.”
