The Sixth Form Fashion Show 2021

Last Friday, the Croydon High Sixth Form held the widely anticipated annual Fashion Show. As this was the first major event after Covid lockdown, the event generated much excitement. We are happy to say that even though Covid awareness meant that the audience were separated into bubble year groups, the successful return of this legendary event exceeded all expectations.

The evening’s entertainment kicked off with the Upper Sixth High School Musical dance, an energetic feast of red and white for the eyes. This was followed by a variety of catwalk, ranging from TV shows to Countries and Cultures. The Sixth Form, joined by guests from Whitgift School “strutted their stuff” down the stage with elegance, humour, and pitch perfect cameos.

Tamia and Shayna, compéres for the evening, kept up lively and fun interactions with the audience and Olivia H’s rendition of Valerie was sublime. After a short interval, when the audience were able to enjoy delicious mocktails and a range of ‘cultural sweet treats’, we jumped straight back into the second half with an outstanding performance from the Whitgift band; Mondiale. The audience could be forgiven for believing that they were at an O2 concert, as camera lights waved and the audience sang along with covers of vintage rock songs from Green Day and Oasis, ending with everyone ‘twisting’ to the final rock number. The show then raised the bar even further with a poignant ballad beautifully sung by Sienna C and expertly choreographed dances, including the glamorously beautiful Bollywood Dance and one inspired by the Teen Beach Movie. The show ended with a toe tapping cowgirl vibe led by the Lower Sixth; we especially enjoyed Kirsty M’s showpiece during Cotton-Eye Joe!

It proved to be a hugely successful charity event, raising well above our target to support our two chosen charities; Raise your Hands and Women for Women Afghanistan.

The grand total came to a whopping £3,386.82 which we are sure will be put to good use by our chosen charities.

We are very grateful to all who contributed; special thanks go to the Head Girl Team, to Mr Monaghan and Mr Morton who stepped in at such short notice to help with lighting and tech and indeed to all those who helped make the event so memorable.
