Year 1 Live Science Lesson

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Year 1 were thrilled to take part in a Live Science Lesson on Wednesday 10^th March as part of British Science Week to try to answer this question. The lesson, which was live streamed, happened via Encounter Edu’s YouTube page in association with the National Farmers’ Union and the founder of Eggucation. We learnt a great deal about the life cycle of a chicken and were lucky enough to see a hatchling hatch live on the screen. We were amazed to find out that often male chicks are born a different colour to female chicks and we were even treated to a ‘scan’ of an unhatched egg. The girls couldn’t believe it when they were able to see the chick breathing inside the egg. This was a great experience for the girls and a chance for them to be a part of a national live lesson, learning something new and exciting about Science.
