Croydon High Masked Singer for Comic Relief

WHO’S THAT BEHIND THE MASK?

At Croydon High we all know that the staff and girls have had a challenging year. What better way to end the term than with our very own “Masked Singer” competition?

The idea was to provide some light relief for all our community and to bring everyone together in a fun way. The event was linked with Red Nose Day in aid of Comic Relief and it is fair to say, was a tremendous success.

A number of staff accepted the challenge when asked to participate and entered fully into the spirit of the event. They each recorded themselves singing a couple of songs, giving an interesting fact about themselves and finally revealing their identity.

During both semi-finals, pupils were asked to sit back and let the staff entertain them – they certainly did that! Students were then given the chance to vote for their favourite contestants and guess identities. Resulting in some very interesting suggestions!

Last Friday 19 March, the Final took place and 7 unlucky contestants did not make it through. They were given the opportunity to sing their second song and then to chants of ‘take it off, take if off’ echoing around the school (from the 6th Form Centre, K block, Mrs Webb’s office, and all along J corridor) reveal their identity. Now knowing our finalists, their second song was heard and enjoyed by the whole Senior School community. Laughter, cheering and clapping could be heard from every form room. Once the final voting took place, we had to wait for the results to be announced at 1.30pm and the last few singers unveiling was much anticipated.

The talk around school both in and out of lessons was all related to the Masked Singer – questions, guesses and which character was going to win. 1.30pm arrived, all pupils were in their form rooms early, eagerly waiting the results, identityies and who will be crowned our champion Masked Singer 2021.

The drum rolls started, again, chants of ‘take it off, take it off’. It was extremely close; the top 3 singers were all within 11 votes of each other and I am pleased to announce :

  • 3rd Place – T-Rex
  • 2nd Place – Unicorn
  • And our WINNER in 1st Place – The Frog

Many congratulations and a massive thank you to all who took part, not only all the singers but also Mr Bishop for all the editing and creating the fantastic shows. Also, to all those who generously donated to Red Nose Day and Comic Relief. Together as a school, we raised an impressive total of £1,550.02.
