A Summer of Chess

Over the course of the summer, I took part in various chess events. After qualifying from the school stage, then the Megafinals, I went on to the penultimate stage – the Gigafinals. Unfortunately, I missed out on qualifying by two points.

Although I was disappointed, I decided to enter a different style of chess: The Delancey Fast Chess Qualifier. You are given just three minutes to make your moves and over 100 people enter from each age group.

There were six events in total. The top eight girls and boys are given a place in the final. After six weeks, I qualified and was delighted to be a finalist this year. I also played in some local competitions where I placed 2nd and 3rd. This all began with Croydon High Chess Club, which I enjoy being part of. You can join us after school on Thursdays in Rooms 50 and 51!
