Wycombe Abbey Model United Nations

On Friday 17th January, eleven KS4 pupils donned their diplomatic garments, collated their research and braved buses, tubes and trains to attend Wycombe Abbey’s three day Model United Nations conference. Throughout the weekend, delegates formed part of either the U.S. Senate, the Security Council or the Economic & Social Council and engaged in rigorous debate, negotiations and consensus building. Members of the Security Council also had the opportunity to take part in media stakeout interviews with professional broadcasters. It wasn’t difficult to suspend our disbelief and live the role of a diplomat – an endeavour greatly aided by the wonderful social events. In the evenings, delegates enjoyed a Black Tie Diplomatic Dinner and an exceedingly energetic Highland Ball. It was a wonderful opportunity to make friends with other pupils from a range of different schools and hone crucial networking skills. The whole conference was thoroughly enjoyable and enabled our pupils to develop their leadership skills, cultural empathy and global citizenship. A huge thank you to all our pupils for making the weekend so enjoyable and to Miss Howie for giving up her weekend to accompany us.

If anyone else is interested in becoming involved in MUN, do please come and speak to me – no experience necessary!
