Y11 3D Mock exam

Over the last week, the Year 11 3D students have been working hard in their 10 hour practical mock exam. There brief was to design and make a table or chair predominately out of wood and they had to use at least one wood joint. All students started their research in the summer holidays and began meeting their client to discuss ideas and outcomes. They had to take into consideration their clients’ needs as well as their creative design ideas. They have used every machine including the fret saws, disc sander, belt sander, handsaw, pillar drill, laser cutter as well as the hand tools whilst creating, lap, mitre, dowel and mortise and tenon joints. Other materials have included acrylic, resin and pebbles!

At Croydon High we continue to emphasise the importance of STEAM, encouraging cross-curricular links with mathematics, science and enterprise technology, as it is not only vital for further education but for getting our students world ready. Creative thinkers are essential in every sector from the technical to the scientific. In the UK alone there are now over 2 million jobs on the creative sector a rise of over 30% since 2011. Well done Year 11, you should be extremely proud of your achievements, you have shown creativity, determination, critical thinking, focus, passion, energy, enthusiasm, resilience, resolve and the willingness to problem solve at every moment. So the question is will they be real world ready? You bet, they will be!

Please do keep Wednesday 10th June 2020 4.00pm – 7.00pm free, as this is when all the work will be show cased in our Art & 3D Design summer exhibition.
