Tapestry in Textiles Club

Croydon High School has embraced the theme of diversity for many years so it was a dream to find this quotation  by Maya Angelou which we, in the co-curricular Textiles Club, decided to use as inspiration for a quilt. We meet in the Art Department once a week on a Friday lunchtime, only half an hour, so it won’t surprise you to hear we spent one and a half terms completing it!

Maya Angelou’s quotation reads:

We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their colour.’

We really enjoyed making this banner because it was fun, although it took a while to create. We all had our own words to design during the making of the banner; we really developed our sewing skills. I think the best part was how we all upgraded our team working skills. It was a great way to spend our Friday lunchtime, and it still is!

The people who helped with this were Year 8 girls:

  1. Lucy
  2. Meg
  3. Tara
  4. Louise
  5. Ananya
  6. Malina
  7. Anousha
  8. Isla
  9. Aashka

And of course Ruby, Rebecca and Jan!
