Visit to Churchill Theatre Panto Press Launch

Last Friday, 27th September, two girls from Year 5 and 6 were fortunate enough to spend the day at the Theatre in Bromley for the launch of this year’s panto, Aladdin. The girls had to apply for the opportunity to go and represent Croydon High and wrote a 100-word application to Mrs Raja stating their reasons why they would be a good roving reporter. Tilly (5M) and Anjali (6V) were the successful applicants. They arrived prepared with their questions and even had a Dictaphone ready to meet and mingle with the cast. After the official cake cutting ceremony and a Q&A with the Panto’s producers, the girls had their moment! They were treated as members of the press and conducted interviews with Aladdin, Washee (and his monkey Gordon!) as well as Widow Twankey played by Christopher Biggins.

Anjali: “We had an amazing day and it was great opportunity to meet the cast of Aladdin, especially Christopher Biggins as he is really famous! I learnt some tips on how to be a good actor and how to carry out an interview.”

Tilly: “We had a great day. I think it is amazing that we got the chance to interview real actors for the panto. Meeting them has inspired me become an actor when I am older.”

When asked for their top tips for aspiring actors, they said…

Yazdan Qafouri (Aladdin) – “Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Try something new, try something different.”

Max Fulham (ventriloquist) – “Get yourself a puppet, stand in front of the mirror and practise over and over again.”

Christopher Biggins – “Don’t do it!”
