Uni Alumnae Tea with Lower Sixth

Yesterday we hosted our annual “Tea with the Alumnae” Event. As part of our Pathways Mentoring Programme, this aims to prepare our Lower Sixth for their next steps, by allaying some of their fears, sparking their curiosity and encouraging enthusiasm for the future that lies ahead. Our recent alumnae ranging from girls in the class of 2016 to those who left last year came out in force to support the younger members of the Croydon High Family. These young women were superbly accomplished and ably placed to support their younger Croydon High School comrades, whilst they make these life changing decisions. All gave valuable insights about apprenticeships, interviews, courses they study and/or the university they attend.

The afternoon began with our alumnae introducing themselves; some read out letters written to their “17 year old selves”. They all then proceeded to the Sixth Form centre for a Speed Networking activity followed by raspberry lemonade and brownies. This gave them the chance to network, mingle with, and generally exploit the apprenticeship, university and subject experience of a number of our undergraduate old girls.

Yesterday’s tea with alumnae event was thoroughly enriching for us as year 12 students. Talking to the old Croydon High girls was very useful and interesting, learning about their tips for revision at A-level, choosing courses at university, their experiences and transition into university life. It gave a sense of comfort as we are facing the daunting prospect of submitting personal statements and following through the UCAS process. We got to hear what university is like, how to find a course that fits you and getting tips for additional exams, like the UCAT which is taken for medicine and dentistry. It was nice to see some familiar faces to give us advice as we head into Year 13.
