2019 Art Exhibition

The day of our 2019 Summer Art & 3D Design Private View started with the Junior School who visited the exhibition with their teachers.  It was fabulous to see their excited faces and hear their delight as they saw the art work.  They were especially inspired by Sienna Lloyd’s ‘Body Sculpture’.  Fallon in Year. 1 enjoyed it so much she brought her parents to see the show in the evening; she was excited by Piya Varma’s video installation.  Thank you to Mr Wilkes for organising the visit.

It really was a fabulous evening celebrating Year 11 GCSE and Year 13 A level pieces. The proceedings started with music composed by the Year 11 GCSE musicians.  We especially loved the piece by Alexandra Malyszkoi which was inspired by the Edward Munch painting ‘The Scream’.  Thank you to Mr Suranyi for arranging the music throughout the show.  Also thanks to Elizabeth Mulholand (our Catering Manager) and her team who created pieces of art for us all to eat.

The girls have worked so hard over the last two years and should be congratulated on such a successful show.  The variety of work exhibited was outstanding, and a real testament to the girls’ individuality and creativity.   There was work ranging from lighting, furniture, jewellery, sculptures, paintings, felt making, embroidery, ceramics, glass work, photography, print making, video installation, projection and a very inspiring and thought provoking protest piece about child refugees by Aleeya Lone. It was lovely to see ex Art students Rhea Dillon (2014- who’s just received a First class Honours Degree from Central Saint Martins in ‘Fashion & Communication’), Georgia Syms (2015- who is now a partner in a top Savile Row tailor’s), Morayo Adeagbo (2018) and Carys Marsden (2018), along with the youngest guest baby Autumn Robertson.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our Art & Design technicians Jan Duyt & Amanda Barnett, Art teachers Mr Robertson & Mrs Palmer, and CHS Audio Visual expert Mr Bishop for their expertise and dedication in supporting the girls putting up the show. So many guests and parents commented on how professional the standard of work was; it really was the summer show to be at in 2019.

This year we are also going to be exhibiting work by our girls in Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9).  This will be held in the Art Department on Tuesday 9th July from 400 – 6.30; you are all warmly invited.
