Cricket Camp

Over the weekend of 27/28 April, lots of girls from years 3 to 8 attended a cricket camp at Croydon High run by Roger Wallbank on behalf of Sanderstead Cricket club.

On the first day, we started off in the sports hall with clinics on the main aspects of cricket: bowling, batting and fielding. Thanks to the amazing coaches we improved so much. Hannah Jones (Normandy CC & Surrey Stars player) came on Saturday to coach some of the girls. Meeting Hannah was a great opportunity for us to ask any questions we may have had relating to the game in general. Ambreen said: ‘My cricket has improved drastically in all aspects due to the great coaches and Hannah’s tips and tricks!’.

In the afternoon we blended all of our skills learnt in the morning and took part in some match play. At the end of the day, all of the different age groups came together and recapped on all the things we had learnt.

On Sunday, we were coached by Johnny, George and Sam. George just got back from an amazing cricket opportunity in Australia. We started the day in the pavillion meeting our new coaches and seeing the day’s timetable. We continued with various clinics with the different coaches on the astroturf. We all learnt very important skills that will be very useful in our PE lessons and in our match play against other schools. After lunch, we played different variations of traditional cricket which was very exciting.

We were still learning what to do or not to do in a variety of scenarios during an actual match. Overall we can all take a great deal away from this weekend and I enjoyed getting to know some of the younger girls and actually becoming even closer with my own friends.

On behalf of all the girls, we would like to say thank you to all the coaches, parents and our PE teachers for organising this special event.
