An Evening of Dance and Gymnastics

An evening of Dance and Gymnastics was a huge success; every girl from Year 4 to Year 9 took part with some of the older girls from Year 11 and above performing in audition pieces. Across two evening performances over 400 spectators were able to witness the talents of our girls.

From Ballroom to Hip Hop, the dance element of the evening truly took the audience on a journey around the world in 45 minutes. Some of the highlights included the Year 5 Bollywood Dance, ‘Jai Ho’ with the girls’ exquisite arm movements, the Year 7 Flamenco dancers who incorporated a taste of Spain with their astounding red skirts and perfect synchronisation to ‘Reggaeton Lento’ and the elite performance of Emily and her partner Tom with their numerous ballroom dancing sequences all self-choreographed.

After the interval (and a lot of sweat from the PE staff) the gym mats were laid out and the Velcro was in place ready for the Gymnastics element of the evening. The Senior Gymnastics Squad induced a lot of oooooos and aaaarrrrrrrrs from the crowd as they kicked off with their vault display and backward somersaults. The Year 8 girls demonstrated a beautiful routine using the benches and the Year 9 girls showed a flare for HipHop.

It was clear to see that all of the girls who took part had a great time. If crowd participation was a sign of triumph the girls were definitely triumphant! A massive thank you needs to go to all of the members of staff and Upper Sixth who made both evenings such a success, as well those who helped with backstage and technical areas of lighting and music – we could not have done it without you. Thank You for all of your support.
