Nurturing her full potential
About us
At Croydon High School, we enjoy an enviable reputation for providing girls with an exceptional range of learning opportunities. In fact, from the caring Nursery and Reception classes in our vibrant Junior School, to our outstanding Senior School and Sixth Form, we take great pride in fostering a happy, nurturing environment where individuals flourish. Few schools can match our sporting achievements and facilities, or our rich programme of extra-curricular activities. Most significant of all though, we have an excellent and consistent academic record, a fact aptly demonstrated by impressive examination results and the ability of our girls to secure places at many of the country’s leading Universities. During their time with us, girls become mature, outward-looking young citizens, each well-equipped to benefit fully from Higher Education and take their rightful place in the world.
As reported in an article in The Guardian, we believe that the GO-ED (Girls Only Education) we provide gives our girls significant benefits over the Co-Education offered by some other schools.
Providing a quality education for over 130 years
Croydon High School has provided a superb, all-round education for girls since it was established in 1874. The school skilfully combines tradition with a forward-looking approach to education. Set in beautiful grounds and playing fields, the modern, purpose-built premises enjoyed by today’s pupils are located three-and-a-half miles from the centre of Croydon, in green belt land in peaceful Selsdon. With the advantage of a large, single site, the school offers an all-through education for girls aged from three to 18 years. Alumnae have swelled the ranks of Politics, Business, Medicine, The Arts, Sport and many other professions and include: Baroness Sear, Marian Roe, Jill Tweedie, novelist and journalist; Wendy Savage, consultant gynaecologist; Jane Warr, BBC reporter; Helen Chadwick, the first woman to be nominated for the Turner Prize, and Jacqueline Du Pré. Few schools can match our outstanding pastoral care and strong achievements across the curriculum, including Art, Drama, Music and Sport.
